Exploring Resolutions: How Do I Keep Exercising Past January? (with Arash Maghsoodi, DPT)

It's February. Are you still hitting your New Year's resolution goal of 10,000 steps a day? Has your new gym membership card started to collect dust yet? Do you just want to feel a little stronger and have a bit more endurance, in case, you know, a pack of wild angry raccoons starts chasing you??

We feel you. (It's a daily fear for us too ;)

Thankfully we have brought in an exercise, rehab, and PREHAB specialist, Arash Maghsoodi, DPT!

As a doctor of physical therapy, and one of the founders of [P]REHAB (an online resource for physical therapy and using exercise for preventive rehab), Arash serves as a wellspring of helpful, valid, evidence based information regarding exercise and fitness.

EXERCISE IS MEDICINE! Arash is here to explain how we can be better at taking our daily/weekly doses!

Topics in this episode include:

Why is "exercising more" such a common New Year's resolution?

Why do many people "drop off" in this resolution in the third or fourth week of January?

How can we set ourselves up to maintain our fitness/exercise goals?

How can "putting your shoes by the front door" help?

How can we exercise "SMART-ly" and not get injured??

Check out HIGH-YIELD, easy-to-understand exercise and fitness content by Arash and partners at [P]REHAB!

Julie Bruene

Dr. Julie (Julia if we’re being formal, Julia Rose if she’s in trouble) Bruene is a sports medicine physician at Midwest Orthopaedics at RUSH, a renowned, nationally-ranked orthopedic practice in Chicago. She serves as a team physician for the Chicago White Sox, Chicago Bulls, and DePaul University. Aside from her obvious interests in sports and medicine, she is a true crime obsessive and is a total sucker for rescued cats. She lives in Chicago with her husband and partner-in-crime, Adam, and with several of the aforementioned rescued cats. We don’t need to get into specifics about the exact number here. She likes when people are kind to one another and when animals dress up like other animals. Rock over London, rock on Chicago.
